    Re: T-Willard--Halloween

I figured all that out (what you put in the image), but what I didn't figure out is how to avoid the silhouette look I keep getting with all my trees, buildings, and the like. When I'd play with the colors it would adjust the colors of the models and the like, so I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to do with the color settings.

I'll see if I can find the compiled maps somewhere so I can find the fog settings.

I've always had a problem with fog, I've never been able to get it to do anything but cause silhouettes and look bad.

Thanks for letting me know where the color correction goes, I've tried all kinds of stuff. So doing the VPK I'm going to have figure out how to put that in, but that's a chore for another day.

The exterior of the house seems to look fine to me right now, but I wish I could figure out what it's missing. It just feels like it's missing something, but I'm not sure what.

    Re: T-Willard--Halloween

    Thins I learned today:

Use the displacement select function, not the arrow select, when creating displacements or there will be hell to pay.

How to use the color correction tool! (YAY! Thanks Lexino!)

Where the fogui tool is located, and what the buttons do. Now to figure out how to use the buttons. (Sometimes I feel like a chimp trying to fly the Space Shuttle)

That my map needs something more than just the building. Not sure what yet.

That using large geometry brushes for my "ground" will result in lighting errors, so go with small ones.

    Let's see what tomorrow brings!

Well you have to fiddle with colour settings and start/end values.

there's an example from a map I'm working on

    http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...4-44-55-44.jpg

As you can see the colour of fog doesn't blend with the sky, hence silhouettes

    http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...4-43-56-80.jpg

With the correct colour values, it blends with sky so it looks like a proper fog

Also the start/end values, bigger the difference between, less dense the fog is, so don't set the end value too high or you won't see it, but don't set it too low either.

If you still give up, there's a link for the decompiled maps.

Find the map that goes with your skybox, then copy values from env_fog_controller (the one with name fog_master).

    Re: T-Willard--Halloween

Realize I haven't posted screenshots or anything in awhile.

I just can't figure out what to put on the grounds. No matter what I put there, even trees, it just doesn't look right.

Maybe I'll be able to figure it out.

Even if I don't, well, I learned a LOT about geometry.

Now if I can just figure out why my map isn't loading the color corrections file still.

    Color Correction:

Try your colorcorrection file with the file extension.

    For example:
    materials/correction/twillardscolor.raw

I find that if you don't put the ".raw" on the end in the entity's table lookup file it won't find it.

Oh and don't forget to save the colorcorrection before you quit the engine. I can't tell you how many times I've had to redo my colorcorrection because I forgot to save it!

As for what to put around your house, try some fencing, a ditch maybe, and some foliage. Perhaps a small creek running through the front yard with a bridge going over it.

    Re: T-Willard--Halloween

Between getting my book back from the editor for the final line by line edit, and not being able to figure out what to do with the property surrounding the house, I just couldn't get it in gear in the final stretch.

Oh well. Hopefully I'll do better next one.

At least with this challenge I learned how to do color correction on the level, which makes a HUGE difference to how the level looks.

Another contest, another passel of stuff learned.

That is the most important thing...Same for me. I've learned a lot.
