what would it be? Level design related that is!! For me I would love to see more 3d modeling tutorials and more environment photos(like a reference photo catalog). How about you guys?

Tutorials, how to's, quick guides
A 'dummy's guide' as a long term consideration for level design
member portfolios
Continuing the format of challenges - small, medium, large, each of which can be added to portfolio's so people build up their work to use in future, see their progress and experience grow. Not sure people actually realise that is what we've been trying to do so far.
Increasing the assets of 3DED using the challenges & porfolio work
Work towards a WoLD mapping project, emulating working as a design team and what the pro's and cons' of working this way show us.
1. I thought that's what this website was founded upon?
2. Depends on what the focus is, or is it level design in general? I think a collaboration of knowledge is a good idea.
3. YES!!
4. Agree. Small prizes would give the contests a nice bit of incentive.
5. Agreed. Have a "user submit form", so anyone can upload assets that they have made.
6. Double, YES!!!
A collab project with other members on here would be pretty awesome.

I like the idea of collaborative projects. People can form teams (or be assigned team members, I dunno) and work on something specific. That would be interesting.
I also like the idea of member portfolios. Seeing everyone's body of work in a nice format would be great.

This would be insanely awesome! A challenge that requires a forum-team collaboration. Forum members could assemble teams with each other and enter the competition as one. That sounds so damn cool/fun to me.
I would sign up for this today if it happened!!!

Some of my ideas/suggestions:
I'd really like to see a user tutorial section on the main website. They could be submitted and need to pass approval by the admins.
A level/game design portfolio connected to our forum accounts with a link/button to them on our posts and profiles.
This one might be far out there but I think forum/website achievement/reward systems are interesting and might possible provide incentive for some to create. The Splash Damage forums (http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/) do something like this. But I'm not talking about achievements for posts and things like that. But rather achievements for project work. Something like "Competed in X Challenge", "Won X Challenge", "Contributed X Tutorial(s)," etc.
Complete (modeling, texturing, importing, etc) tutorials on modeling custom assets. - Complex and simple.
A World of Level Design podcast with forum members?
Videos/tutorials on analyzing existing environments from various games. Some questions I'd like to hear; Why does/doesn't its design work, how might it have been constructed, is it telling a story, is it interesting enough to explore, level of difficulty involved in building, etc.
Information on how one might pursue a career in Game Design/Level Design, and the jobs associated with these skills. Also info on what skills someone might need in this area and how they could improve them.

I've always believed there were enough talented people within the WoLD community to tackle a collaborative challenge and pushed it whenever I had the opportunity. In fact, with enough teams, it would be a natural progression to link the maps together to make one or more campaigns out of the submissions.
You guys should give it a go anyway, Alex has provided plenty of resources & tutorials, it just needs organisation amongst yourselves really.
Good luck though, I'll be following this with interest.
I am very interested in this idea. I've never worked on a game/ mod team before. However, one must wonder if his individual skill level will bring the entire team down? Care must be taken to ensure that each team has a fairly equal chance of winning. This would be insanely awesome! A challenge that requires a forum-team collaboration. A lot of planning would probably need to go into this challenge. Team leaders would need to be assigned and a member limit needs to be set. After that, the work flow or whatever is up to the team/leader. Teams should probably have a maximum and minimum requirement to be eligible though. I think the time limit should be pretty long for this kind of competition. Team Assembly phase, Planning phase, building phase, etc.
One idea that comes to mind; an individual could sign up for the contest as a Leader and others could apply to his/her team. Others applying to the team could submit their work and state their skill levels in whichever area, engine, etc.
And vice versa; members could start a seeking team thread and post their work and expertise.

There could also be different categories, "Beginner", "Intermediate", and "Advanced".
Another problem is that not everyone uses the same engine. We could say that we will be using THIS engine, but that could leave a lot of people out.
Hmm... what to do?![]()

Collaborative efforts...sounds Portal 2-ish lol. Awesome!
I would like to see more asset creation tutorials, specifically for UDK since I'm unfamiliar with it.
Challenges that force experienced people to use an unfamiliar engine and be teamed up with lesser experienced people, whose main experience is in the aforementioned unfamiliar engine, would be an interesting coop twist, though possibly hard to do.
I like zim*'s idea of having a link to a member's portfolio, this could be under the person's name under his reputation.
UDK Materials Creation Tutorial
It would be cool if pm's were sent out to people to tell them "Hey, get back to work on such-and-such awesome project! Where'dya go?" and "Quit starting stuff without finishing your other stuff!" after they hadn't updated their cool thread in a couple days. Although this would work better if people's settings were such that pm's were emailed to them. I'm pretty bad about finishing things...I tend to take my time and time and time and start working on other stuff. It's amazing what I can forget I was doing just yesterday, and start working on something old or else.
A WoLD challenge participant overview: This could be a short little post after each challenge that lists the completing participant's strong points and areas where they need work. Things like "needs more diligence", or "needs to focus on gameplay and less on appearance". If you don't finish the challenge then you don't get this, so would be another small incentive to finish, I think.
Here I thought it was just me.I'm pretty bad about finishing things...I tend to take my time and time and time and start working on other stuff. It's amazing what I can forget I was doing just yesterday, and start working on something old or else.
That could possibly turn into a charade where the inexperienced person who knows how to use the engine pretty much just copies down what the experienced guy tells him to. No creative effort on the part of the "engine-guy".Challenges that force experienced people to use an unfamiliar engine and be teamed up with lesser experienced people, whose main experience is in the aforementioned unfamiliar engine, would be an interesting coop twist, though possibly hard to do.
A mentor-ship program, on the other hand, could be a great way for those with less experience to participate in professional work, in a friendly and educational way. However, I doubt people will have enough time to do that, unless it's where the mentor could just PM some notes and an assignment/project that uses those notes, just like homework in school. Grading, however, might be a problem, unless it's just feedback from the mentor. Positive responses are good grades, negative responses are bad grades.

Create a blog, put a link in a signature, that's the quickest route. Dust off all those abandoned projects and relabel them as 'study in...' type work. Similarly, any buildings can become 'prefabs' or 'instances'. Not only does it give new breath to old projects but it gives you a psychological boostA level/game design portfolio connected to our forum accounts with a link/button to them on our posts and profiles.
Like this a lot, very good idea. An award system that is useful and shows the level of participation in, and completed, challenges (two distinct differences there). Lots of potential in this idea. This one might be far out there but I think forum/website achievement/reward systems are interesting and might possible provide incentive for some to create.
