    [WiP] 11 Day Level Design - Winter

    This will be my first map done with hammer in some time so lets hope I haven't gotten to rusty.

    My plans for the map will be a rooftop condo that was having a nice little Christmas party before the infection hit so there are torn pieces of a party lying about, a stage, and various other little features.

    Overview
    Game: Left 4 Dead
    Map Type: Survival
    Area: Rooftop Condo
    References:Anything I can find related to condos.
    Time: Night to Mid-Morning
    Weather: Lightly Snowing

    Features
    • Large Area to Fight in and many area to defend.[/*:m:3cpm94w7]
    • Various Locations of ammo and health causing the players to explore the area rather then holding in one location.[/*:m:3cpm94w7]
    • Breakable walls in many rooms causing no area to feel safe.[/*:m:3cpm94w7]
    • Many breakable objects and items to give the location a lived in feel.[/*:m:3cpm94w7]
    • Custom pieces of art.[/*:m:3cpm94w7]

    Now I'm off to start mapping.

    Update/Progress

    So after some complications, one of the main ones being the literal cluster fuck of objects in a tight space, I altered the idea from a Penthouse to a Resort in some mountain that was having a Christmas party before the infection hit.

    I'll be starting construction later today, hopefully with L4D 2 SDK instead of L4D 1's if I can fix a few minor problems first. If not, It'll just be a minor grip that I'll have to deal with.

    *I will also hopefully get a few picks of the basic architecture up later today.*

    L4D2 SDK is far more stable for me now. Which isn't to say it doesn't crash still, but just not as much...

    Good luck either way!

    Update/Progress

    After a long day of work I finally nearly have the base of the build done, textures and even a bit lite.

    XD Ya, I know. This was before I added the snow to it. Here are some shots after I added it.

    The unfinished front. Planning on adding a garage where the big wooden block is. A few cars and some other dressings.


    And another shot of the back, this time with a skybox :D
    Still need to add some water to the pool, a little bit more of a party with some tables and such.
    More chairs.
    And the other fence.
    Snow also needs a little better dressing but that'll have to wait.

    Sio I'm going to be dropping out of the contest. A little round a bought of getting a new OS on my pc ended with it deleting the map XD
    Oh well.
    Down for this one but I'll be raring to go for the next contest.
