    10-Year-Old Challenge - JasonH

So I was shown this thread last night by a friend, and decided it would be worth a shot even if I'm a little late. I started gathering references from the shows and genre listed, but really who doesn't like aliens, robots, and other random big metal things .. in an underwater base no less.

So I start in maya with a blockout to see how it's going to look. It's nowhere near done for the blockout process but this is what I got after a few hours today.

Hopefully the blockout and uv'ing will be done by the end of this week, but that'll depend on feedback/changes or whatever I see in here. Please disregard the z-fighting in the bins at the top of the tower, that happens in my maya camera sometimes when faces are too close together.

    Hey Jason,

    We cannot see the images.

Make sure the image is in your public directory, and you have Right-Click on the file --> Dropbox --> Copy Public Link

Thanks Alex, normally I use dropbox to share files for working in a small group or a backup for a project and not for public display.

Here's the results of today's build:

Still up for suggestions or guidance, now that the pix are visible and all that. Essentially the top portion is above the water like an oil rig, and the bottom is at the bottom of the ocean floor. Nothing is UV'ed, but that's what happens when you make the mistake of imagining too big. :O

It always takes me a while to UV, so I didn't get much done today, but here's where I'm sitting.

Cool concept! Are you planning on staying in Maya or are you going to build your final in some game engine?

@ BasketQase: If I get enough of it done, I'd like to build it back up in UDK where I can use the multitude of material tools to make the textures really stand out more. But I'm worried it might be too much for my schedule, as I spend my mornings job hunting and the afternoons on this. We'll see though.

Today's work on the project was more uv'ing, which wasn't bad since maya only crashed on me twice. Normally during an 8 hour period it'll crash 10 times or so. Thanks everyone for your kind words.
