    [Unreal] - The Farm

I finished this one off and thought I would post it for anyone who wants to check it out or give feedback. I am reasonably happy with it. It's a bit flat and bare which is a down but The Haunted is a great mod to map for and I am going to get onto another one straight away.

    Thanks.

    outstanding work mat !

Maybe you can play a bit more with lighting to break this flat factor.

    Mat!

I am really loving that fact that you are pumping out maps since the begining of this year and they are getting better since the last one. Keep the momentum going.

    Few notes for next time:
    • I like the monochromatic feel, but I do feel like the lighting could be punched up like Sylvain said. Some contrast is needed. Maybe darker lighting so the lights really feel like they stand out
    • Adding fog could help the atmosphere more.
    • The vehicle, rocks and the poles would benefit from having shadows underneath to have them more part of the environment
    • The warehouse looks good and good use of textures
    • I like the minimalistic look and the empty feel of the environment. Simple and effective.

What are you working on next?

    Thanks guys.

Got some good feedback to look at from other places too.

I have started to work on the new one today although I did research it a bit over the last two days when I was taking a rest. It's going to be indoors but here are some of the main references I have so far:

Round temple type thing with several layers underneath it. Spending a lot more time doing research for this one, as it would have helped a lot more on that one I just posted.

    Hey mat,
Just wanted to say you have some wicked good interior design skill.

Maybe hunt down some pictures of outdoor scenery and figure out what is missing from yours.

    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks Man.

The inside parts are the bit I am the most happy with. The outside does have a lot of issues but I don't want to spend any more time with it. Did learn a lot for the next one.

Try your hardest to finish your projects.
If you find yourself struggling on something always try to shrink it down. Can you do an outdoor setting in a tighter environment? When you give the viewer the ability to see the same spot from many different points it becomes far more difficult to make that spot beautiful. I live in the city, but when I go on my walks there is a very rustic looking spot along the way. I walked over to it once and scanned the surroundings to take in the scenery but seen a highschool(gross 1960's design) with dumpster bins and telephone poles. It was basically an illusion. So, in short, try to control how much the play can see and it will make it easier on you as a designer.

A good book worth checking out is Architecture: Form, Space, and Order by Francis D.K. Ching.
On page 328 it goes on to show the distance what is considered to be Personal Space(whispering to a handshake), Social Zone(talking with your friends in a group), and Public Zone(tables placed in a restaurant).

I like it. I agree with eveyone else with the lighting. The map reminds me of bit of stalker: shadow of chernoble, which was a awsome game. i like that empty feel which has been implied. good work and looking forward to seeing your next project
