UDK Pirate Challenge- Hulkspidy51
Hey guys! I'm new to the forums. Saw this and had to enter. I'm already playing around in UDK with the mesh. I'll probably post screenshots either today or tomorrow. Maybe get some concepts up. Good luck to everyone

Ok so here's what I got so far. Messed around a bit and started building a pirate ship. Not sure which direction I want to take this. Maybe make this a floating level between a few ships. I'm leaning towards a docked pirate ship though. I'm gonna work on the pirate ship a bit more today and will post an update tonight hopefully.

Looking good, keep it up. Which water texture have you used? Is that one of your own?

Hey Nathan, thanks! Can't wait till this thing is finished! The water texture I used is the same that came with the package. I just darkened it and up-scaled it to 1024x1024.

Pretty awesome! Is that shovel made from stock assets?!

A treasure map?!? Aw, man, what a great idea! I really like the dug out hole and the silhouette of the ships in the fog, too. Nice use of billboards : )
@nathan: I think the shovels (along with the background ships, map, knife, canvas, tree trunks and prolly the fire) are billboard objects.

I actually just put a material with an alpha on the the water plane that came with the package for most of those assets. The the skull in the sand I used a decal material on top on the terrain to make it look like the pirates dug the image out of the sand. What's cool about the decal is that it will adjust if you change the height map of the terrain. Other than that I did a little tweaking of the materials to fit the mood of the level. The wood and water texture is darker and I made all the bottles at the bar either Captain Morgan(of course), Jaegermeister, or Southern Comfort. Pirates love their booze : )
