    UDK Pirate Challenge - Vaansinn

    Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and I just want to say I have seen some great work here already
    ....sry...
just want to say a big HELLO to everyone here

    But back to topic,

I am going for a darker tone and decided to place my setting in a cave, some destroyed ships/shipparts...trying to make it look like an old abandonned pirate cave

This is my first screen, trying to get the setting and idea sorted...

    I just reaslised I shouldn't take highres screenshots :P

    Sry about that

    Cya soon

So this my progress so far. I decided to focus on the ship first, and the cave and the details later.

mmh that's weird. Am I doing something wrong with Dropbox? At home I can see the images but here at work I can't see them either. I shouldn't use dropbox anymore :/

I'll update everything tonight at home.

    Just a quick update.

I am focusing on the buildings at the moment...and it kinda reflects my recent status "work in progress"

Please let me know if you can't see the image.

    Hey guys,

couldn't do anything for a while, unfortunately
But I am still trying to make the best out of it.

I created different "sprites" and have to put them together now for my improvised pirate bay.

This is the pub I was working on today and I hope I get a few building done in the next few days to show you better what I was going for.

That's it for today. Will update you in a few days

    So there is my update:

There's a new piano player in town and he brought his piano:

    And the office:

    And the rest:

I still have to admit that there are some great works out there and I really feel mine looks rather boring :/

But hey...let's continue for the lulz

    Yeah, the piano's great ^_^

And I don't think it's a boring level. You have really interesting structures and lots of detail. I think some of it just gets lost in the uniformity of the texture. There are a number of relatively easy adjustments you can do -- swapping textures on some of your wood, making some "painted" wood by doing color variations of Warren's wood texture, or just making your own texture entirely -- that could help bring out your detail. Also, the right lighting can make a cube look fantastic. I've learned to reserve judgement on a creation until I've seen it lit. : )
