WoLD Storytelling Challenge 1 - WarrenM

OK, going to attempt to do this one and hope I don't fail out like last time! I have a plan but it's fairly nebulous in my head at the moment. Started sketching a little in UDK this morning and will get a lot more of this done over the weekend.

As I said ... fairly nebulous. However, I have some good ideas for height variations and interesting vistas!

Barely had time to work on this today. Le sigh. Here's hoping for better results tomorrow!

Not sure what the bones are yet so I'm not talking about it. Once it's more finalized, I will talk about it!

Some sketching hackery in Photoshop, trying to nail down a style...

Cool wip Warren. Very similar to how I design as well.

    Things are moving ahead!

Got some more boney stuff happening, some work on the bench, and some temp train cars to fill in the space.

From there I started working on the train station components. Hey, it COULD be a train station eventually!

And here's a composition shot to give you a feel for the area. The stuff on the right side is likely just temp although it might become a side building of some description in the end.

Really hope I can finish this one because I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Next up will be that broken wall, I think.

I'm taking a bit of a chance on this. If I can see it through, it should make sense.

If it makes sense in your head there's a good chance it will work
The source engine may be outdated but by god can it ever make good levels.

It's an interesting environment you have cooking up. I'm intriqued to see how it finishes.

More noodling around with meshes and composition. Might be moving away from the boney theme into something different...

I have some ideas on material shader tricks that might look neat if I can pull them off. Here's hoping!

No real progress today. I did a small trash mesh that looked terrible once I put it into the game so I'll have to start over on that one next time I get some trigger time in on Max.

    Hey Warren,

Awesome work flow with pumping out all these meshes in a small space of time. I really like the simplicity of scene but with unique details that make it you're own style. For me, the organic structure of the bones don't mix with the low rise concrete structures in your level too well however you can imagine this scene being a playable environment with hints at what may have happened here giving the scene some life. Overall really digging your scene.

    Keep up the excellent work!
