I've realized that I don't understand enough about L4D2 to create a full level so I'm going to take a step back and, using that awesome art deco link that was posted in another thread, create a few buildings to get my feet wet and get comfortable with the dimensions and feel of this game.

My first attempt:

Signage is temporary, obviously, and what's more important is the shapes and how the building feels to run around on. I like how this turned out so it's on to the next one!

I really like the look of that building. I like the mix of sharp corners and sweeping corners. It makes for a great contrast.

Were there any other reference images for the sides and rear of the building, or did you use your imagination? Either way, it's a great building. Great Work.

There were a few other shots but the first one was the primary influence. The other shots gave suggestions like the staircase on the back of building. That was hinted at in another picture and I expanded it to be what you see there.

Wow what a cracking building, Warren, it's very, very pretty.

I love the composition and balance you've achieved, it's sublime. Only thing I would suggest is that the upper floor exterior is flat & could do with some detailing, streamline moderne style maybe.

You've more than enough talent and understanding so far to create a level, so please don't discount your ability yet. Based on what we've seen so far, I for one believe it will be a cracking piece of work when you've finished.

Thanks for the pics, they're a real joy to lay eyes on mate.

I actually think those shapes might work for a bus depot. I saw pic of a 1930s style Greyhound bus depot before with those same curves and it just stuck with me. Now you just gotta incorporate all of your practice buildings into your Survival map and there you go!

That's the idea. I'll build a few more buildings to get a feel for how it works and then try a survival map. Probably something outside, surrounded by buildings, open courtyard kind of affair.

Looks really good. I did something similar when I was starting to really map properly and my work improved significantly afterwards, so I would definitely say you've got the right idea by trying this out.
