Hi everyone,

Sorry I am new here and couldn't find this issue addressed (please just let me know if it's already been answered or brought up).

In l4d2 authoring tools the map I make is always illuminated as if the map is being played during the day. Even when I included a night-time skybox, the whole map (even tunnels, closed off rooms, etc.) were well-lit instead of dark. Any idea what settings I need to change to have it be "nighttime" or anything like it was in l4d ??

Thank you :!:

Have you added an env_light or any other light entities to your map yet?

Light entity for the sun, perhaps? Needs to have the colours darkened at a guess.

I do not mean to be rude when i say this so dont take it that way. Is this inside hammer itself or when your testing your map?
If its while your working on your map inside of hammer then yea thats normal,
but if its after you have rendered it and doing nav mapping or whatever then you have demons inside your hammer and need to seek a priest.

Haha no it's in the actual game when I'm testing. I know the hammer level editor is normally lit up, but my map during gameplay is lit up like it's in the level editor. Very strange and haven't figured out yet how to fix it. I'll try adjusting env_lights and let you know if that does anything.

When you run your map does everything appear without shadows or anything like that? Complete blinding light everywhere? If so then I believe you can solve this by just placing a "light_environment". You can tweak the settings to change it to night, the default setting should have it set to have a rather bright daytime feel.

Hope thats what you need. :D

Yep, I'd say the light_environment is what you're looking for. To get started, you can use the valve settings for your particular skybox from here (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_list#Left_4_Dead_2). Let us know how it goes!

It worked ! It was the lighting_environment being set to bright and day-like attributes. Such a noobie mistake, but much appreciated for everyone's suggestions!
