Been up since about 8 this morning working on the planning for this project, intend to get all the pre production stuff sorted today so I can start to build tomorrow. Taking a lot of time and care with the planning though. I might have some stuff to show tonight.

Production begins tomorrow :)

Screenshot below. Not really ready to show anything yet tbh because I hardly got any time for it at the weekend.

Been a very very slow start.

Man, that is some detailed work you have already! What kind of things did you learn from the pre-production blueprint that you added into this challenge? Would be cool to see the difference between your initial approach and then how it developed after reading it :)

sarge mat
01-23-2012, 07:51
cheers got all the main stuff blocked in place so I am just working my way round now adding all the main mesh's into place.

I think the main difference was that I thought about everything in detail, I find as I am building stuff I am adding things I know already should be there rather than make it up as I go along. It just as import to keep referring back to the planning work you do during production as it is planning it out in the first place.

I should add the lighting in the screenshots above is nothing like what I have planned, its just the best to work with in the early stages.

I think scene is really good. But i can't see any relevance with quote and theme for now. Other ways it's really looking "A" quality.

Excellent terrain. Looks very natural.

sarge mat
01-23-2012, 17:54
cheers :D Had some issues with the frozen layer on plants today but, found a work around so planning to post that up here as given the theme others might have the same issue.

You might have already mentioned it but what engine are you using for this?

sarge mat
01-24-2012, 11:45
Cry Engine 3. The SDK version.

Sarge could you please make screenshots without the text in the upper right of the screen ?

(Some tips for a better screenshot:
Open console and type in the following command:
r_displayinfo 0 (removes the text from the screenshot)

Open up console again and detach it, so that you can move it around. Place it in the upper left corner of your screen.
Now change the screensize (button somewhere in the upper right of the screen just below the menus.) Should say something like 1920x1200 . Change that to 3000x2200 or something (behold you computer will almost freeze)

Wait a moment for the screen to adjust and then type in the console:
r_getscreenshot 2

voila you have a 3000x2200 high ress screenshot.
Its saved in: C:\Users\yourusername\Saved Games\Crysis2\ScreenShots
I dont know the location for the Free SDK folders, since I dont use it yet.)

cheers for that. It does not appear to like anything greater than 1920x1080 though for some reason. Will post some up later. Thanks.

Some nice shots here. Are you using different times of day for the final submission or have you not decided on one yet? Whats the story behind the scene?

sarge mat
01-28-2012, 12:12
Hey, this is the final TOD now, just need to work more on the final lighting later. You might get a bit more from the story in the screen shots below, still need to get some models finished and imported to really sell it and would rather do that first before I explain all.

One of the assets I am working on. Need to move some of the objects around a bit after looking at it in game.

Made some changes to the path as someone said it lacked focus and had too much noise.

Thanks :D

Nice terrain, are these rocks voxels?

Cheers. No idea actually they are the default ones that come with the engine?

Those are brushes.
The voxel tool allows you to sculpt terrain/rocks but its hard to create realistic rocks with just the voxel tool.

Any thoughts?
Is there a quick way to edit the position of the characters arms etc? Its a Geom Entity.

Which material did you use for the snow?

Hi thanks,

I am using the cry engine frozen material setting.

Hi thanks,

I am using the cry engine frozen material setting.
Which sadly doesn't work in the Crysis 2 Mod SDK. I had to find that out the hard way.

The free SDK frozen layer looks stunning in your environment.

Since I havent worked with the standalone editor yet I don't know if there are any default animations in it.

sarge mat

There is a slower way to do it. By changing shaders etc because the frozen layer does not work with grass etc. Will post it up tonight if its any use to anyone.

cheers :D
