UDK Pirate Challenge - pdutzel

Hey everybody! I've been working in UDK for about a year and a half now, but I've never done a challenge before. This seems like a lot of fun, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. Thanks to WarrenM for the awesome assets, and good luck to everyone participating!



For this level, I'm thinking of making a sort of shipwreck scene. At one end of the map, there will be a cave entrance shaped like a skull, and at the opposite end, there will be a single, small boat. Between these two objects will be an assortment of floating and sinking debris from a pirate ship. I'm looking to make the scene very eerie looking. I'll be posting some sketches up soon.

A warning though, Myself, and one other contestant has already tried building a ship with the assets, and found that the ones we used didn't work. I'm not saying you shouldn't, if you can make it work, go for it! =D

I don't plan on actually building a ship, just showing pieces of a destroyed ship in the water, so it should work fine.

Woah, sorry for lack of updates guys. I've actually been bombarded with work and haven't even had time to work on this! I'm going to try and get as much work on this as I can tonight, and hopefully I'll be able to finish by the deadline. I'll be posting updates as the night goes on! :]

First pass on the skull cave. Obviously still needs a lot of work to get the right angle.

Fixed the skull cave some and began work on the crow's nest and surrounding terrain. Not sure if I'll keep the terrain or not yet.

Well, it turned out that I didn't have enough time to finish my level for this challenge, so I'm afraid I'll have to drop out. Wish I hadn't of been so busy this month :(
